After watching the Bibra lake Rainbow bee-eaters arrive late last year, dig their burrows, see off marauding Dugites, feed their chicks, and become political pawns, I still hadn’t caught an image I was really happy with. When I visited on Sunday, I thought the chicks had all left and I’d missed my chance.
But returning yesterday I realised one of the pairs I’ve spent so long watching and snapping still had a chick in the burrow. It was awesome then to catch this shot today – the male in flight with a bee, and TWO chicks in the frame (both male and female I think), no wings chopped off, and pretty sharp. VERY happy!
