Weird at first glance, a big pink balloon bobbing on a turquoise Indian ocean in an otherwise serene scene. But there is a teenager on the jetty with a heavy duty rod and line attached to this “float”, and underneath is a wire and giant hook with a dead mullet bait.
The kids from the end of Woodman Point jetty do catch a lot of big sharks by this method. See here. Some are caught and released though there are a few pics out there of big sharks some locals have killed.
Always a bit unnerving when swimming with you’re kids 100m away. But we are in WA, and we have to accept that we share the ocean with big sharks!
